Covered California/Medi-Cal

Covered California

Health insurance coverage is one of the most important protections imaginable to our well-being and our security. Covered California is the state program implementing the federal Affordable Care Act that makes health insurance affordable and available to millions of Californians who were previously denied coverage or unable to afford it.

Through Covered California, you and your family can compare your health insurance options and choose the one that best fits your needs and budget. By law, your coverage can't be dropped or denied if you have a pre-existing medical condition or if you get sick. You may even be able to get financial assistance through Covered California to make your health coverage more affordable.

Medi-Cal and Covered California

Medi-Cal is California’s version of the federal Medicaid program. Medi-Cal offers free or low-cost health coverage to California residents who meet its eligibility requirements. Californians can apply for both Medi-Cal and Covered California health insurance through the Covered California website. When you complete a Covered California application, your application is automatically reviewed for Medi-Cal eligibility.
