Public Leaders Internship Program

Public Leaders work on the front lines with my Constituent Service Center team to connect communities with the resources and assistance they need to improve the quality of government services.  

The Public Leaders Fellowship Program will provide the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about the legislative process, constituent service delivery, and office professionalism. As part of our Leadership Team, you will have the opportunity to gain experience:

  • Serving as a community ombudsman.
  • Assisting constituents navigate the complexities of government to resolve community problems.
  • Designing and developing community events as assigned.
  • Responding to constituent inquiries.
  • Conducting policy research and writing policy briefs.
  • Developing and maintaining good relationships with constituencies.
  • Building office capacity through data collection, analysis, and entry.
  • Supporting the recruitment of Public Leaders.

 

Program Eligibility (High School Public Leaders)

All Applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 years old by December 31st of the Public Leaders Fellowship  Program year.
  • Have attained at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated an interest in politics, government, and\or public policy.
  • Have completed the third year of high school studies and will be enrolling in the Fall semester as a senior.
  • Commit to 110 hours of service as a Public Leader.

 

Program Eligibility (College Public Leaders)

All Applicants must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by December 31st of the Public Leaders Fellowship Program year.
  • Have attained at least a 3.0 GPA and demonstrated an interest in politics, government, and\or public policy; or, for freshman college students, must have attained at least a 3.0 GPA in the last year of high school.
  • Be enrolled in a postsecondary educational institution.
  • Commit to 160 hours of service as a Public Leader.

Applications will be accepted and reviewed year-round for placement and must include:

High School Public Leaders

  • Completed Online Application.
  • Personal Statement.
  • One Academic Letter of Recommendation.

College Public Leaders

  • Completed Online Application.
  • Cover Letter.
  • Resume.

Interns work agreed-upon hours at my office. They are responsible for their own transportation. All internship work is voluntary and students will not receive any monetary compensation.
