Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove’s Title X Resolution Advances after Assembly Win
SACRAMENTO—Today, Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove’s (D-Los Angeles) resolution AJR 42, which urges the Trump-Pence Administration to reconsider its proposed Gag Rule on Title X providers, passed the Assembly Floor.
Administered by the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Title X program was created in 1970 to ensure that every person – regardless of where they live, how much money they make, their background or whether or not they have health insurance – has access to reproductive health services including birth control, life-saving cancer screenings and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). The program serves more than four million low-income women and men every year – one million of those in California alone.
AJR 42 calls on HHS to reevaluate any proposed rules that are dangerous to women and intentionally attack reproductive and women’s health care.
“By obstructing access to reproductive health services in particular, you are violating a woman’s fundamental right to choose,” said Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove. “And while the Trump-Pence Administration continues with discriminatory and blatantly destructive policy decisions that denote hatred and hostility, I’m especially grateful for those of my Assembly colleagues who stood today in support of Title X Family Planning Resources.”
