Assemblymember Kamlager Supplies Personal Protective Equipment to Frontline Workers through EquipLA Collaboration
(Los Angeles) — Today, Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager (D-Los Angeles) dropped off 1,000 medical grade masks for United Healthcare Workers at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Medical Center.
As Chair of the Los Angeles County Delegation, Assemblymember Kamlager has been working with BizFed Institute (BFI) to collect donations and supplies for frontline workers. This unprecedented partnership also is composed of all 38 other Assemblymembers and Senators in the LA County Delegation, Los Angeles County, the Hospital Association of Southern California (HASC) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Los Angeles Locals.
The collaboration, called “EquipLA,” is an effort to collect and donate personal protective equipment (PPE) supplies to protect frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. These entities are working together to ensure that PPE is distributed evenly and to those that need it most across the County.
“Within days of receiving donations for PPE, we put it in the hands of workers. These donations are even more important for frontline workers now as greater numbers of people return to normal activities,” said Kamlager.
Other beneficiaries to date include the DreamCenter, Shelter Partnership, Goodwill SoCal, SEIU Los Angeles locals, Barlow Respiratory Hospital, CHMC, Watts HealthCare, the East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital and Maximum Care Hospice.
"Every part of our society must come together to protect the most vulnerable among us and the people who offer their time, their hearts, and their hard work to care for them. Nursing home workers and other long-term care workers are deeply grateful to every partner who is stepping up to fill this need," said April Verrett, President of SEIU Local 2015, representing long-term workers.
“These efforts compliment the strong leadership we have seen from Governor Gavin Newsom and our elected leaders,” said Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager, chair of the LA County Delegation. “This partnership is business and labor coming together, understanding the severity of this crisis and striving to protect the workers who protect us.”
