Assembly Member Santiago’s Statement on Gov. Newsom’s State of the State

For immediate release:

(Los Angeles, CA) Following Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) State of the State, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:

“As the Assembly Member of the 53rd district, I represent one of the hardest hit areas. Small business closures, rent and even utility bills are piling up and are leaving behind many residents of my district. Parts of my district even had as many as 1 in 5 residents test positive for COVID- 19,” Assembly Member Santiago said.

“COVID-19 has hit residents of my district especially hard and support cannot come quickly enough for us. Gov. Newsom’s plan that he laid out in State of the State starts to lay out a recovery and engages in a real vaccine equity conversation for communities hardest hit by

COVID-19. It’s the start of a long road to make sure we vaccinate the hardest hit communities and bring the economic relief we need immediately.”

Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy.

He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
