Assembly Member Santiago Responds to Governor Newsom’s Vaccine Announcement

For immediate release:

Los Angeles, CA – Following Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D-California) announcement to expand vaccine eligibility to California residents aged 50+ on April 1 and 16+ on April 15, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:

“As the representative of Assembly District 53, 30% of my district’s residents live in poverty and parts of my district saw as many as one in five residents test positive for COVID-19. We need help now and I applaud Governor Newsom for expanding eligibility and for his work getting the vaccine to our state’s most vulnerable residents. I will do everything I can to help residents in my district and across CA get vaccinated so we can reopen our economy, reduce the spread and stop a new surge.”

Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance and Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committees on Public Safety, Health, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
