(Sacramento, CA) – Following Governor Newsom’s release of his May Budget Revise, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:
“Distance learning didn’t work for poor kids in my neighborhood,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago. “Governor Newsom’s May Revise offers trailblazing investments that prioritize our low-income families and communities who have suffered immensely during COVID-19, including a whopping $7 billion to close the digital divide to help everyone who fell behind during the pandemic leap ahead.
Other significant investments include billions to help pay off rent, utility, and traffic ticket debt, expand Medi-Cal to undocumented adults over 60 years of age, and substantially invest in fighting climate change.
The pre-pandemic California economy was not working for everyone. We must build back better from COVID-19. Let’s take these historic investments to the finish line.”
Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
