Assembly Member Santiago Responds to the Assault Weapons Ruling

For immediate release:

(Sacramento, CA) Following the ruling overturning California’s assault weapons ban, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:

“A Swiss army knife is not a weapon of war, an AR-15 is a weapon of war,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.

“What is this judge going to say next, that a bike is the same as a big rig? The judge has now legalized the same AR-15s which were used in the Sandy Hook and Parkland school shootings. I ardently support this ruling’s appeal and hope it is overturned so we can protect our children and loved ones.”

Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
