(Los Angeles, CA) – Following the California Legislature’s passage of AB 832, which extends California’s eviction moratorium to September 30 and pays up to 100% in back rent for low-income tenants, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:
“COVID-19 hit our communities hard and millions of Californians face unemployment and deep economic hardship,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.
“Homelessness is already on an all-time high and mass evictions will only worsen the situation. We must extend the eviction moratorium and deliver more rent relief to renters and small landlords to build back boldly from this pandemic. AB 832 will accomplish just this.”
The bill now heads to the Governor’s desk to be signed into law before July 1st.
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
