Big Wins in the California State Budget

(Los Angeles, CA)Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) is proud to announce budget wins that he requested and collaborated on in the state of California.

  • $2.6 billion for rent relief to pay 100% of back rent for some COVID impacted tenants.
  • $322.4 million to clean up the Exide pollution in South and East Los Angeles.
  • $6 billion to expand broadband access.
  • $1.3 billion to expand Medi-Cal eligibility to all income eligible Californians 50-plus years of age, regardless of immigration status.
  • $8.1 billion in direct relief of $600 to Californians with incomes up to $75,000 and an extra $500 to families with children, otherwise known as the Golden State Stimulus.
  • $12 billion over two years to combat homelessness, including direct aid to local cities, counties and Continuums of Care with strong accountability requirements.
  • $10 million to develop electronic Driver’s licenses and ID’s.

 “COVID-19 hit us hard but our economy is recovering and it’s imperative that all Californians feel a new sense of hope for a better future,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago. “This means protecting renters who are inches from eviction, fighting pollution in our communities, ensuring high speed internet for all, expanding Medi-Cal access, combatting homelessness and so much more.”

As the second lowest income Assembly district in the state, Assembly Member Santiago is committed to ensuring that his district’s community institutions have the support they need to rebuild from COVID-19.

Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
