For immediate release:

Governor Newsom Signs Homelessness Bills and Asm. Santiago Responds(Sacramento, CA)Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement upon Governor Gavin Newsom’s press conference at Alvarado Care Home where he signed multiple bills addressing homelessness:

“Homelessness is an urgent emergency! I am proud to stand alongside Governor Newsom and my colleagues to sign several measures that take a step in the right direction in fighting homelessness,” said Assembly Member Santiago.

“In order to help our unhoused neighbors, we must keep challenging the status quo. We can’t keep doing the same things over and over and expect different results.

We recently passed an unprecedented investment - $12 billion with accountability to fight homelessness, with $2 billion in direct aid to locals - and we call for unprecedented results.

People living in Skid Row can’t wait any longer. We need to build all types of homeless housing with lightning speed. Let’s house our unhoused population now.”

Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Communications and Conveyance Committee and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy.
