(Sacramento, CA) – Following Governor Newsom’s recent announcement to expand Medi-Cal coverage regardless of immigration status, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:
“As someone who has been fighting for healthcare for all for years regardless of immigration status, I am beyond thrilled that all who are eligible for Medi-Cal will now have access regardless of immigration status,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.
“Healthcare is a right, not a privilege and immigration status should not decide whether Californians can access healthcare. Think of the lives this will save. I would like to thank Governor Newsom for adding this to the budget and I’ll work as hard as possible to get this approved in the legislature.”
Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
