Assembly Extends Paid Sick Leave and Assembly Member Santiago Responds

For immediate release:

(Sacramento, CA) Following the passage of SB 114/AB 84 (requires businesses with more than 25 employees to provide Supplemental Paid Sick Leave (SPSL) from January 1, 2022 through September 30, 2022), Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:

“We must not let up in supporting our essential workers as we prepare for a potential future surge,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.

“That is why I am proud SB 115/AB 147 has passed so supplemental paid sick leave is extended to September 30, helping workers for employers with more than 25 employees recover and earn income while feeling sick.  Workers should not have to decide between paying rent and feeding the kids, plain and simple. Additionally, I am excited about other budget bills that passed today such as SB 115/AB 147 ($1.6 billion to the CA Department of Health) and SB 113/AB 87 (tax credits/grants for small businesses) so we can help all Californians feel the effects of our recovery!”

Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
