Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas Introduces a Reform Proposal for The State Board of Equalization

Tuesday, June 6, 2017

Sacramento -Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas released the following statement on the introduction of AB 1210- BOE Reform:

"As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Revenue and Taxation, I have taken great interest in the administration of taxes, and I have been deeply concerned about the operations of the Board of Equalization.

The Board of Equalization has had no shortage of challenges, and the findings of State Controller Betty Yee’s report, and the Department of Finance’s evaluation have not inspired confidence in this institution.

I have taken some time to review each of the audits, and discuss concerns about the Board of Equalization with its elected members, the taxpayer community, my colleagues in this body, the media, local governments, unions, and the Governor’s administration. My legislative proposal  represents the framework  of what a  Board of Equalization reform  should encapsulate."
