Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas Releases Statement on Federal Tax Reform Proposal

Thursday, April 27, 2017

SACRAMENTO- Assemblymember Sebastian Ridley-Thomas released the following statement at the announcement of the federal tax reform proposal:

Our primary focus is on a fair tax system that supports economic growth, reduces income inequality and benefits taxpayers. Multiple plans are forming, but chief priorities for the vitality of the Golden States’ economy are keeping the federal deductions Californians enjoy in their payment of state and local taxes (SALT) and continued authorization for tax exempt public debt.

The California impacts and benefits of federal decisions on the enactment of a destination-based cash flow tax (border adjustment), repatriation, the elimination of the alternative minimum tax, and simplification of tax filing documents are being scrutinized. In the immediate future, we will begin discussions about California’s goals in a tax overhaul proposal and how any changes must benefit working people, enterprise, and opportunity in the Golden State.
