Assembly Members Santiago and Quirk, and Los Angeles District Attorney Gascon Pass Juvenile Three Strikes Reform Bill through the Assembly Public Safety Committee

(Los Angeles) – Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), Assembly Member Bill Quirk (D-Hayward), and Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascon celebrated the passage of AB 1127 through the Assembly Public Safety Committee. AB 1127 will reform the juvenile Three Strikes law in California and help fight mass incarceration.

Emergency Food Assistance for All Bill Advances

(Sacramento, CA) – AB 221 “Emergency Food Assistance for All”, joint-authored by Assemblymembers Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) David Chiu (D-San Francisco), and Robert Rivas (D-Hollister) and principal co-authored by Senator Susan Rubio (D-Baldwin Park) has passed out of the Assembly Human Services Committee on a 7-0 vote.

Assembly Member Santiago Responds to Governor Newsom’s Vaccine Announcement

“As the representative of Assembly District 53, 30% of my district’s residents live in poverty and parts of my district saw as many as one in five residents test positive for COVID-19. We need help now and I applaud Governor Newsom for expanding eligibility and for his work getting the vaccine to our state’s most vulnerable residents. Millionaire’s Tax Bill is Introduced

(Sacramento, CA)Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) is introducing a bill for a millionaire’s tax. The bill AB 1253 is jointly authored by Assembly Member Lorena Gonzalez (D-San Diego), Assembly Member Ash Kalra (D-San Jose) and Assembly Member Alex Lee (D-Milpitas).

Assembly Member Santiago Pushes Ballot DISCLOSE Act

(Sacramento, CA)Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), along with Senator Henry Stern (D-Los Angeles), introduced AB 1416, the Ballot DISCLOSE Act, to bring greater transparency to ballot measure campaigns in California. This bill would require a voter’s ballot to include the supporters and opponents of each ballot measure.

Following Passage of Paid Sick Leave, Assembly Member Santiago Responds

“Paid sick leave represents fairness, justice, and decency for California’s workers,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago. “Currently, sick employees are forced to work to provide food for their families even when they’re infected with COVID-19. Employees then spread the virus to their co-workers and their co-workers families, thus worsening the pandemic for everyone. It makes sense that we passed SB-95 which will provide paid sick leave so that all Californians, especially our most vulnerable, are more protected from this virus.”
