(Sacramento, CA) – As California is poised to receive billions in federal aid, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) calls for more state rental and utility assistance for millions of Californians facing unemployment and mounting renter debt.

Small business closures, rent and even utility bills are piling up and are leaving behind many residents of my district. Parts of my district even had as many as 1 in 5 residents test positive for COVID- 19,” Assembly Member Santiago said.

For example, roughly 1 out of 5 Boyle Heights residents, 9 out of 50 Huntington Park residents and 1 out of 6 Pico Union residents have tested positive at some point during the pandemic, some of the highest rates in Los Angeles county and the state of California.
