(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Mark Gonzalez (D-Los Angeles) today took the oath of office by Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas (D-Salinas) to serve as California’s newest Member of the State Assembly. Gonzalez was elected to represent the cities and communities of Boyle Heights, Downtown Los Angeles, Koreatown, Pico Union and the surrounding areas.
“I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity and the trust the voters in Assembly District 54 have placed in me to represent them in our State Capitol. From Boyle Heights to Koreatown, Montebello, and every community across the district, I am eager to listen to and collaborate with residents, community leaders, and businesses to address the pressing challenges we face—such as housing affordability, public safety, and rising costs of living.
Our team is fully prepared to hit the ground running from day one, delivering meaningful results that reflect the needs and priorities of everyone in our district. I am honored by this responsibility and ready to get to work for a brighter future for all.”
While serving as Chair of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party, Mark organized support for laws to make community college free, protect our air and water, make housing more affordable and combat the homelessness crisis. In 2022, he helped lead the fight to pass a constitutional amendment in California protecting a woman’s right to access safe, legal abortion care. In 2023, he worked to pass a new law ensuring that all healthcare workers receive a minimum wage of $25/hour.
Mark will fight to raise wages for working families, tackle LA’s homelessness and housing affordability crises and guarantee healthcare as a right for all.
