Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez (D-Los Angeles) issued the following statement on reports of ICE raids throughout Los Angeles:
I am outraged and heartbroken by the news of ICE raids that took place this morning across Los Angeles—including in our very own Downtown neighborhoods. These acts of aggression against our immigrant communities are cruel, unnecessary, and fly in the face of the values we stand for as a city and a state.
Let me be clear: I stand unapologetically and fiercely with our immigrant communities—families, workers, and neighbors who have long been the foundation of our city’s strength, resilience, and culture. We will not be silent. We will not stand by. I am committed to mobilizing every available resource, working hand-in-hand with rapid response teams, mutual aid groups, and immigrant rights advocates to defend our communities and provide immediate support to those impacted.
I join SEIU California members demanding for the immediate release of SEIU President David Huerta, who was injured and unjustly detained during one of today’s ICE actions in Los Angeles. We demand his release without delay and urge authorities to provide full transparency and accountability for this unacceptable incident.
To everyone in our community: Know your rights. Protect your loved ones. Share this information widely. And if you witness ICE activity in your neighborhood, call the LA Rapid Response Network at 1-888-624-4752 with any details you can provide.
Now more than ever, we must stand together—and stand up—against fear, injustice, and intimidation.
