Statement on ICE Detentions in Los Angeles

For immediate release:

Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez (D-Los Angeles) issued the following statement on reports of ICE detentions in Los Angeles:

Over the last 24 hours, I have witnessed individuals—many with deep, long-standing ties to our communities—being detained by ICE without access to legal counsel or due process. It has been both heartbreaking and infuriating to watch working families torn apart simply because their loved ones went to work in the morning. ICE is targeting people who have lived, worked, and contributed to the fabric of our city for years. Among those detained are parents, workers, and community leaders—people who deserve dignity, justice, and protection, not fear.

An immediate review of these detentions is imperative, and all individuals must be granted access to legal counsel and the constitutional protections they are entitled to. This must not be allowed to continue.

We stand in unwavering solidarity with our immigrant communities and demand accountability from the agencies responsible. Our fight for justice, dignity, and due process will not stop until every family is safe and every voice is heard.
