Sacramento, CA – Today, Assemblymember Mark González issued the following statement in response to the State Assembly passing ACA 8, The Election Rigging Response Act:
"ACA 8 is not just about redistricting — it's about the survival of our democracy. I grew up in Texas, where voter suppression was a reality. I saw families turned away at the polls and entire communities erased from the map.
Today, Donald Trump and his allies are running that same playbook across the country — rigging lines and silencing voices because they cannot win on ideas, compassion, or their own merits. To that, I say: when democracy is attacked, silence is surrender— and California never surrenders.
ACA 8 gives Californians, not politicians, the power to hold Donald Trump accountable. Decisions are made by those who show up. That's what ACA is about — entrusting Californians with their own future, and providing the choice of democracy over monarchy.
ACA 8 is more than policy — it's a promise. A promise that in California, democracy will not be dictated by tyranny, but written by the will of the people."
Assemblymember Mark González is the Assembly Majority Whip. He represents the 54th Assembly District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Commerce, Montebello, and Vernon.
