(Sacramento, CA) Earlier today, the Majority Whip of the State Assembly, Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), honored Carol Schatz, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Central City Association, as Woman of the Year for the 53rd Assembly District.
“I am thrilled to be able to honor Carol as our Woman of the Year for 2016,” said Assemblymember Santiago. “For over 26 years, Carol has been the voice of business for downtown Los Angeles. As President and CEO of the Central City Association (CCA), she has been a tireless advocate for growth and development and has been instrumental to the complete revitalization of Downtown as a dining and entertainment mecca.”
The California Legislative Women’s Caucus sponsored the annual “Woman of the Year” celebration, in conjunction with March as Women’s History Month. The event includes a special ceremony on the Assembly Floor in which most of the Assemblymembers honor a woman who resides in his or her district or who has significantly contributed to the district.
Carol E. Schatz is the first woman to serve as President and CEO of the Central City Association of Los Angeles and she also serves in the same roles at the Downtown Center Business Improvement District (DCBID). Under Ms. Schatz’ leadership, CCA has undertaken a number of important initiatives including the Adaptive Reuse Ordinance to organize state funding and incentives to help developers convert empty office buildings into housing. With her at the helm, the DCBID has made the area safe and clean and brought incredible new residential and commercial investment into Downtown Los Angeles.
“I’m honored to join the influential women who have earned this prestigious award over the years,” said Schatz. “I want to thank Assembly Member Miguel Santiago for this honor and for his support and leadership in efforts to revitalize Downtown Los Angeles.”
Assemblymember Santiago noted that, “The residents of Los Angeles owe Ms. Schatz a debt of gratitude for her outstanding service, and I am proud to call her my friend.”
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Majority Whip of the California State Assembly. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
