(Sacramento, CA) – Earlier today, Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), honored Erin Pak, Chief Executive Officer of Kheir Center and current Board Member for Clinic Mutual Insurance Company as Woman of the Year for the 53rd Assembly District.
“I am excited to be able to honor Erin as our Woman of the Year for 2017,” said Assemblymember Santiago. “This is a special recognition that honors California’s women leaders across the state. In the 53rd Assembly District Erin has showed her dedication to a community that is incredibly diverse, with wide ranging needs. Erin’s commitment to the well-being of Angelenos is evidenced by the great work that she has done at Kheir, as well as by the other prominent positions she has held.”
As Chief Executive Officer of Kheir Center, a nonprofit healthcare and human services organization with a $13 million annual budget that provides high-quality service to uninsured and underserved residents of Southern California, Ms. Pak has successfully orchestrated and completed two capital campaigns, moving Kheir from a one-exam room medical office to a multi-site Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) that is poised to render 59,000 clinic visits in 2017. The clinic, which serves a highly diverse patient population reflective of the surrounding Koreatown service area, is the only community health center in the nation that provides a full suite of services in English, Korean, and Spanish.
Ms. Pak has held several key leadership positions on boards, commissions, and other civic and community-based organizations. She currently serves as a Board Member for Clinic Mutual Insurance Company, which insures community health centers across the nation. She has served on the First 5 California Commission, the Los Angeles City Ethics Commission, the President’s Joint Commission on LA Unified School District Governance, the Getty House Board of Directors, and the Vision to Learn Board.
The California Legislative Women’s Caucus sponsors the annual “Woman of the Year” celebration. The event includes a special ceremony on the Assembly Floor in which most of the Assemblymembers honor a woman who resides in his or her district or who has significantly contributed to the district.
Assemblymember Santiago noted that, “The 53rd Assembly district is undoubtedly better off because of Erin’s contributions and commitment to the welfare of our region.”
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly’s Communications and Conveyance Committee and a member of the California Latino Legislative Caucus. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
