Assemblymember Miguel Santiago Condemns President's Decision to Revoke DACA

For immediate release:

Moments ago, President Trump made the controversial decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program through his Attorney General, Jeff Sessions.  According to Sessions' announcement, the DACA revocation comes with a six month delay to allow Congress to countermand the President's decision through legislative action.

An end to DACA could endanger approximately 800,000 Dreamers across the United States - nearly all of whom were brought here as children and have studied and worked hard to contribute positively to our economy.

"In my wildest dreams, I could've never imagined living in a country where our chief executive one week pardoned a sheriff notorious for his abuse of Latinos and in the next made a reckless and heartless decision to impact the lives of hundreds of thousands of children," said Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (Dl-Los Angeles). "I am horrified and embarrassed by Trump's cruel actions; I'm standing with my constituents, Angelenos, and Californians opposing and fighting his decision and calling on him to resign -- this man is clearly unworthy of being the President of our great nation."

Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly’s Communications and Conveyance Committee, a member of the Assembly’s Public Safety Committee, and a member of the California Latino Legislative Caucus. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
