Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) was presented with the “Child Care Champion” Award earlier this week by Parent Voices and the Child Care Law Center.
The Child Care Champion Award recognizes outstanding leadership in the California Legislature to make quality, affordable child care a reality for children and families.
Assemblymember Santiago was honored for authoring the Child Care Protections for Working Families Act (Assembly Bill 60). Its provisions were enacted through the 2017-18 State Budget. The groundbreaking law sets new guidelines for affordable child care that are among the best in the country.
“While I am in the Legislature, I want to focus on our youngest children. I am a dad, and good child care is an issue for every family,” said the Assemblymember in his acceptance speech.
Child Care Champion awards were also presented to Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher (D-80) and Senator Dr. Richard Pan (D-6).
The Child Care Law Center is a non-profit law firm that breaks down legal barriers standing between families and quality, affordable child care.
Parent Voices is a grassroots parent organization that fights to make quality child care accessible and affordable to all families.
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly’s Committee on Communications and Conveyance. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
