I woke up early this morning to hear the heartbreaking news about the fire and vandalism at Resurrection Church in my district. I pledge to do everything in my power to assist law enforcement in hunting down the perpetrators of this crime,” said Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles).
“My family regularly attends services at Resurrection and my wife, Celina, and I will keep the church and its parishioners in our thoughts and prayers moving forward. More importantly, however Resurrection Church is a symbol of the heart of Boyle Heights. It is the community’s meeting center; the lifeblood of Boyle Heights in the food, services, education, and shelter it provides to our residents. I know that none of that will change moving forward. Our community will rebuild and be stronger than ever.”
Santiago further added, “I must admit -- I do not understand this sort of senseless vandalism. I have faith in the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department investigators who are actively working this case and I know that they will do everything in their power to bring the perpetrators to justice. I have been, and will continue to be, in regular contact with Monsignor Moretta and other church leaders and my office will assist in communicating any schedule changes regarding mass or school to community.”
Assemblymember Santiago has made plans to visit the church as soon as he returns to Los Angeles from Sacramento later this afternoon.
