Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), Chair of the Communications & Conveyance Committee, issued the following statement in support of the United Teachers Los Angeles’ (UTLA) decision to strike:
“I stand in support and solidarity with the Los Angeles teachers in their fight to protect their rights, reduce class size, improve school safety, and ensure fair wages,” said Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles). “Our primary focus should be on our students and in equipping them to succeed at all costs. It’s urgent that contract negotiations between UTLA and LAUSD are settled fairly and in good faith. Our students need to be in their classes learning and our teachers and communities deserve no less than what is fair and just.”
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly’s Communications and Conveyance Committee, and a member of both the Assembly Public Safety Committee and the California Latino Legislative Caucus. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
