Los Angeles, CA - AB 857, California’s transformative public banking measure, has earned the endorsement of the national progressive activists that make up Our Revolution. The organization was borne out of grassroots support for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 run for president, and represents at least 120 local Our Revolution groups across the nation.
The Public Banking Act would give local governments throughout California the option to take their revenues and resources out of the corporate, Wall Street banking system and instead use their own public bank. These public banks would be created with a mandate that they serve the public good – making investments in public infrastructure, higher education, clean energy, or affordable housing.
Over recent months, the joint-authors of AB 857 – Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) and Assemblymember David Chiu (D-San Francisco) – built a strong coalition of coauthors who helped vote the measure off the Assembly floor last week. Those members include:
