Los Angeles, CA - Earlier today, California State Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) stood with Governor Gavin Newsom in Los Angeles, as he announced an appropriation of $331 million to fund assistance for homeowners facing foreclosure and legal aid for renters facing eviction. Santiago released the following statement:
“Renters and homeowners need to know their rights when it comes to facing the threat of eviction and foreclosure. Nearly half of all Americans - and even more Californians in my district - can’t survive a $400 emergency, much less losing the roof over their head,” said Assemblymember Santiago. "This funding will equip renters and homeowners with resources and legal services they need to keep their home and stay off the streets. I’m grateful to Governor Newsom for taking decisive action on this issue.”
Assemblymember Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly’s Communications and Conveyance Committee, and a member of both the Assembly Public Safety Committee and the California Latino Legislative Caucus. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
