(Sacramento, CA) – Following the introduction of State Senate Majority Leader Mike McGuire’s (D-North Coast) bill to divest California’s public funds from Russia (and Russian entities), Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) co-authored the legislation and released the following statement:
“California must show full stop that we stand with the people of Ukraine against Putin’s unnecessary and vicious attack,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.
“We are the fifth largest economy in the world and must divest our state dollars from Russia and Russia’s financial entities as fast as humanely possible. I could not be prouder to co-author Senator McGuire’s legislation that does just this and join a bipartisan coalition that unequivocally stands with Ukraine and against Putin’s bullying and authoritarianism.”
Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
