Governor Announces May Revise and Assembly Member Santiago Responds

(Sacramento, CA) – Following Governor Newsom’s release of his May Revise, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:

“Just as Californians are learning to stay afloat during the pandemic, we’re receiving a punch to the gut with the soaring inflation of nearly 9 percent,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.

“Families and communities are struggling with the rapid rise in prices for everyday items such as milk and eggs, and the current minimum wage isn’t enough for many families to handle these surges. Governor Newsom’s May Revise offers essential investments to our social safety net, prioritizing billions for rental/utility assistance, cash rebates, free public transit, and expanding Medi-Cal to income eligible people regardless of age or documentation.

I am pleased to see an increased investment for adaptive reuse and I look forward to continue fighting for free community college for all, direct cash payments to families with children, and coordinated mental health services and housing for those suffering on the streets. Inflation is hitting all of us and it’s imperative that our surplus goes into the pockets of those most in need.”

Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
