Governor Newsom Declares Monkeypox State of Emergency and Assembly Member Santiago Responds

(Sacramento, CA)Following Governor Newsom’s state of emergency declaration to combat monkeypox in California, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:

“Monkeypox is an urgent public health emergency and that means we need a full throttle response to combat it on all levels of government,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.

“We must increase testing, accessible vaccination sites, the supply of vaccines and community outreach. Also, it is important for all of us to take preventative measures against monkeypox as we ramp up our efforts. We’ve learned a great deal from the state’s COVID-19 response and believe that with this emergency order, we can join with community partners to stop the spread of this disease.”

He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy.
