Governor Newsom Signs AB 257 and Assembly Member Santiago Responds

(Los Angeles, CA) – Following Governor Newsom’s signing of AB 257, the FAST Recovery Act, which creates a Fast Food Sector Counsel to create fair wages and safety standards to protect fast food employees, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) who is also a co- author of AB 257 released the following statement:

“The FAST Recovery Act is about creating a system of fairness and respect for over 550,000 frontline fast food workers throughout California while ensuring fast food businesses continue to thrive,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.

“Fast food workers are essential workers who deserve safe working conditions, living wages, and dignity in their workplace. That’s why I’m thrilled AB 257 was signed by Governor Newsom into law. Let’s also note the historic significance of the signing taking place on Labor Day, when we honor and fight for all workers.”

Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
