(Los Angeles, CA) – Homelessness in Los Angeles County has spiked by 4% since the last homeless count in 2019, according to an update provided by the Los Angeles Homelessness Services Authority (LAHSA) during a press conference this morning.
Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness who also represents Skid Row, released the following statement:
“It’s tragic to see today’s homelessness Point-in-Time count show an increase in our region given all the unprecedented amount of dollars that have been invested from every level of government,” said Assembly Member Santiago. “The homelessness crisis was decades in the making, but it shouldn’t take decades to solve.
Something is wrong here. It’s unacceptable that thousands continue to live on the streets with no shelter and no food while enduring scorching heat waves.”
Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Governmental Organization and the Assembly Select Committee on Los Angeles County Homelessness. He also sits on the Assembly Committee on Health, Public Safety, Higher Education and Utilities and Energy. He represents the 53rd District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Huntington Park, and Vernon.
