“The Real ID deadline is barely half a year away so it is imperative that we apply for them now,” said Assembly Member Santiago. “In order to ensure everyone applies, we need to meet community members were they are, including in accessible locations such as KAFLA in Koreatown and offer services in as many languages as possible. I am proud to have hosted this event with KAFLA and the DMV and we will do even more so all community members are able to receive Real IDs.”

“The Korean American Federation of Los Angeles would like to thank Assemblymember Miguel Santiago and all his staff for putting on a REAL ID event,” said James An, President of KAFLA. “This assures that members of the community who are not comfortable with the English language will not be left out from obtaining a REAL ID by the deadline of May 2023. KAFLA is looking forward to continuing to schedule more REAL ID mobile events in the near future so that no member from our community is left behind.”

“We encourage all Californians to not delay in obtaining a REAL ID,” said Javier Guangorena Jr., DMV Area Manager. “We expect the crowds to increase as we approach the deadline of May 3, 2023. Please begin gathering your documents and make appointments now to your nearest DMV office. Please go on the DMV website and visit our service provider. There is a REAL ID checklist online that you can reference when gathering your documents. If you complete the REAL ID application online and upload your documents on the DMV website, you get a confirmation code for both the application and document uploading. You can then come into the DMV as if you got an appointment. We call it the express experience. The confirmation code for the document uploading is especially important. Please bring the original documents to the DMV when you show up in person.”

With the deadline to receive a Real ID in California on May 3, 2023, it is imperative to ensure that as many residents as possible know about the deadline and that they can sign up for the Real IDs at accessible community locations such as KAFLA. With a Real ID, residents will have access to many essential services and by signing up now, can avoid a potential rush in applications closer to the deadline.
