Governor Newsom Releases Budget and Assembly Member Santiago Responds

For immediate release:

(Sacramento, CA) Following Governor Newsom’s recent announcement on the budget, Assembly Member Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) released the following statement:

“For years, we fought tooth and nail to invest in basic essentials that help ALL Californians share our economic growth. Despite the projected $37.86 billion shortfall, we will continue to prioritize investments in programs that uplift our working families and disadvantaged communities,” said Assembly Member Miguel Santiago.

“While revenue projections are not as robust as previous years, California’s economy and fiscal outlook remain strong. Despite a projected shortfall, our responsible budgeting and healthy reserves have positioned us to protect the progress we have made on our state’s greatest challenges. We must continue to emphasize essential services, such as homelessness programs, health care (including for undocumented Californians), and safety net programs for those who need it most.”

Assembly Member Miguel Santiago is the Assistant Majority Leader for the California State Assembly. He represents the 54th District composed of the cities of Los Angeles, Commerce, Montebello, and Vernon.
