(Sacramento) – At a state capitol news conference Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), Assembly Speaker-elect Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) and Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis called on Exide and the state Department of Toxic Substance Control to act swiftly to restore the safety and quality of life for thousands of residents affected by toxic contamination from the Exide battery plan in Vernon. Assemblymember Santiago, who represents the area in the State Assembly, says “This is a public health crisis that we have got to cleanup now!” Assemblymember Santiago also praised Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas), Chair of the Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Committee, for holding hearings into the massive contamination problem.
