(Los Angeles) – California State lawmakers gathered at press conference to celebrate Governor Brown’s proposed plan to spend $176.6 million to help clean up homes, parks and businesses near the former Exide Technologies facility in Vernon, California. Assemblymember Miguel Santiago has fought alongside community activists to clean up the area that has polluted the neighborhood, causing numerous health issues for residents, many of whom are low income and don’t have the means to move. Assemblymember Santiago, along with other legislators will promote urgency legislation to expedite the delivery of the state funds earmarked to help in the testing and clean-up efforts.
