(Sacramento) – The numbers are staggering…every day in the United States 297 people are shot by a gun, 48 of them are children. If it were an illness, gun violence would be an epidemic. With that in mind Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Paramount) and his Assembly colleagues have authored House Resolution 52 to mark National Gun Violence Awareness Day on June 2, 2016. “None of us are immune from the tragedies that guns deliver every day in communities throughout our state,” Speaker Rendon said. “We as policymakers have a responsibility to not only raise awareness, but also pursue legislation that directly addresses the devastating consequences of gun violence.” To that end, Assemblymembers Rob Bonta (D-Oakland), David Chiu (D-San Francisco), Mike Gipson (D-Carson), Marc Levine (D-Marin County), Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) and Phil Ting (D-San Francisco) have written legislation to reduce gun violence.
