(Commerce) – Assembly Majority Whip Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) joined Assemblymember Cristina Garcia at a Press Conference regarding AB 2153, which was recently signed by Governor Brown. This bill will provide a continuous funding stream for the clean-up of areas contaminated by Exide. The new law will reallocate a fee already imposed on all car batteries, to fund the cleanup of contamination caused by lead acid batteries throughout the state. It will bring relief to affected communities and ensure solutions to a major long-term problem. “This is the worst environmental disaster known in California, if not the entire West Coast,” explained Assemblymember Santiago. “By partnering together in our fight against environmental injustice we now know we can protect our communities.” See more in this Assembly Access clip.
