(Los Angeles) – Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) and Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti held a news confgerence to call for additional homeless shelters to ease the homelessness crisis in California. “For the first time in the state of California we have close to six billion dollars in surplus revenue,” Assemblymember Santiago said. “So, if there was ever a time to act. The time to act is now.” Santiago has written legislation (Assembly Bill 3171) which would require local governments to match the requested $1.5-billion state dollars, resulting in $3 billion to fund homeless shelters, rental assistance, permanent housing and other efforts.
