(Los Angeles) – Contamination from the Exide Battery Plant has caused biological and environmental damage, affecting families in Southern California for decades. Lead-based battery acid can damage the body’s internal organs and stunt a child’s ability to grow and learn. Lawmakers, including Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), are working to clean up the areas affected by this catastrophe. “This would not happen anywhere else, and it would not be tolerated anywhere else,” said Assemblymember Santiago at a community hearing. “We have now fought not only to stop it, but we (are) now fighting to continue to clean it up.” Watch this Assembly Access to learn more about the Exide contamination, and what is being done to help those in need.
