(Los Angeles, CA) – Earlier today, Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles) demanded information from the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and the City of Los Angeles’ Department of Building and Safety regarding dust from the demolition of a warehouse near the now-shuttered Exide battery recycling facility.
The property, located at 3820 East Union Pacific Avenue, is within the area being tested and remediated by DTSC for lead contamination from the Exide facility. The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) issued a Notice of Violation to the property owner for not taking proper steps to mitigate dust.
(Sacramento, CA) – Assembly Bill 390, authored by Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), was approved by the Assembly Transportation Committee today (13-1). The bill will protect pedestrians exploited by an outdated state crossing signal law that has resulted in people on foot being unfairly punished and financially overburdened.
(Sacramento, CA) – Earlier today, Assembly Bill 943, authored by Assemblymember Miguel Santiago (D-Los Angeles), met the approval of the Assembly Local Government Committee with a vote of 8-0. The bill will increase the vote threshold for approval of local initiatives intended to curb growth and development throughout California. The measure is sponsored by the California Apartment Association and supported by a broad coalition including the California Chamber of Commerce, the California Council on Affordable Housing, the California Building and Construction Trades Council, the Central City Association, the Downtown Women’s Center, the Valley Industry & Commerce Association and others.
